Malmö is a modern city in the south of Sweden. It is the third of Swedens towns in size and with a population of 250,000
inhabitants, has a modern and continental atmosphere.
A 35 minutes short trip by train takes you to Copenhagen over the newly build
Öresunds bridge. The train can also take you to the boat for Bornholm or Lübeck.
The major sight in Malmö is without a shadow of a doubt the
Malmöhus, the old city castle which houses a series of museums. Otherwise try
the Form and Design Center or the Rooseum, they have good collections of modern
art. Furthermore you can find an architectural housing exhibition area (from
the exhibition Bo01) on the westharbour. New ideas for living.
Getting There:
Malmo is a convenient stop on your way to or from Copenhagen. By
train the crossing takes only 35 minutes and costs 85 SEK. It is also possible
to drive a single journey costs 280 SEK but combination tickets are available to
make it cheaper.
Trains connect Malmo to Stockholm, Gothenburg and Oslo as well as most of
Sweden. Regional trains and buses are cheap and easy, day or month tickets can
be purchased, Skanetrafiken is responsible for regional transportations.
Sights:
On the whole Malmö is interesting when it comes to architecture. In the culture
quarters of St. Gertrud one finds the oldest half-timbered house in Malmö,
"Thottska huset" built in 1558, and many other historically interesting
buildings. The St. Petri church from the 13th century in Baltic Gothic style has
a retable that is one of the largest ones in Europe.

Malmö Stortorg
Malmö Stortorg was Scandinavias largest square with market trading during the
16th century, and even today it gives a magnificent impression with its statue
of king Karl X Gustaf, the townhall, the residence, hotel Kramer in French
chateau style, the pharmacy Lejonet and Jörgen Kocks house from the same
time.
Eating Out:
Food lovers have a lot to choose from in Malmö. There is a vast array of cosy
local pubs and gourmet restaurants. During the summer Lilla torg is like a giant
outdoor restaurant, full of cafés, restaurants and pubs. But all year round
there is a multitude of restaurants available, serving everything from home
cooking to exotic food.
Nightlife:
It is easy to find ones favourite spot with the right kind of music, and Malmö
also has the advantage of being close to Copenhagen and the continent with its
influenses in music and art. Everything from nightclubs as the legendary
Slagthuset, Kulturbolaget or Star bar, to special jazz- and musiclubs and the
Konserthuset with Malmö Symphony Orchestra, the choice is your´s!
